Is it really necessary to kill anything that flies? How about Eagles and Loons. They might be good eating too.

should be legal, if this is a precedent setting case, and charges are not filed. Here we have U.S. citizens, on public waters, with all the proof in the world for the courts to prove their guilt, not charged for the crime, based on color of skin/ethnic origin. So--my guess is that this must be time to start planning on many others netting around the state next spring. As the head of GLIFWC recently said, it's time to "grocery shop" while the walleys are spawning and easy pickin's for gill nets.

Do we really need to hunt these beautiful creatures that many of spent time and money to bring back from almost extinction? What's next: Bald Eagles? I am appauled at the state of Minnesota. I cannot believe that they would allow this. Do we not have enough animals to hunt?

The best thing for the future of these cranes is to have a hunting season. This means that fees from hunting licenses and sales of hunting equipment can be used to improve their habitat. Unfortunatly, animal rights groups spend all of their money on advertising and lobbying and zero on habitat. The next time you think about sending money to one of these groups, go buy a hunting license instead. If you want your money to go to pay Pamela Anderson to pose without any clothes, donate to an animal rights group. If you want to help animals, join your local conservation club.

Seems to me there's a Caucasion individual who's having just as much trouble getting arrested and tried in court. It seems obvious that neither the tribal or state governments want to press this issue because it would be incredibly expensive in court. There are a few individuals, on both sides, wanting attention and the policy seems to be ignore them rather than rush into a lengthy and expensive court battle which niether side has the resources or desire to prosecute. As far as cranes; too bad the don't have horns. Then you wouldn't have to choke them down to justify shooting them.

I live on a large pond in rural Minnesota. We have sandhill cranes, ducks, loons from time to time, and an occasional bald eagle. But what we really have in overwhelming numbers is geese. Why so many? Why can't we shoot them all year long and feed all the hungry people in Minnesota? There should be a bounty on geese. I don't get why geese are allowed to overwhelm our environment.

I don't see that much interest in shooting sandhill cranes, and you certainly don't see many of them in most of Minnesota. Yet, the canadian geese population is out of control, and no changes are made. As a hunter, I am disappointed.

I can not believe the good people of Minnesota are going to hunt down these beautiful, gentle, and almost tame creatures!!!These birds seem little afraid of human approach. A mother crane that lost her mate was in the parking lot quite confused with her newly hatched baby. She looked into my eyes and I could almost feel her soul. I started walking toward a pond and she and her baby followed me all the way. We walked together for about 15 min. every so often she stopped w/ her tiny fluffy baby.Whe we reached the area that I felt she would be safe, she again looked straight in to my eyes and bowed her head, then went over to the pond to take a drink of water. Eggs and nestling cranes are eaten by crows, ravens, canids, hawks, eagles, and raccoons. Adult cranes are preyed on by foxes, coyotes, eagles, wolves, bobcats, and large owls. PLUS the loss of habitat is a somewhat controllable cause of a declining population...NOW MAN IS GOING TO HUNT THEM!!! This is horrible!! After spending time and money to bring them back from extinction. The good people of Minnesota should not allow this!! PLEASE RECONSIDER THIS AND DO NOT HUNT DOWN THE GEntle and docile CREATURES!!

Killing cranes and Canada Geese is not a sport. These so called "sportsmen" should be ashamed of themselves.
