I totally agree with the advice offered. Mom is wasting no time bashing the SO. In todays' world two weeks isnt anything, months on end ARE, as more college grads, and others are experiencing. Any kind of a job is better than none, even if you have to work for mininum wage. Doesnt Unemployment Compensation offer to pay for your education, while still collecting your unemployment in your state? It does here.

You want your mom's approval but in the end you define and your life. Some parents won't ever agree with who you are with or what you are doing with your life. Follow your heart and do what is right for you and makes you happy. Every couple goes through tough times together and now with the recission you will see if he is a partner worth keeping. If the two of you can get through this you will be able to get through the years ahead of you.

Acknowledge THEIR view, show why it is accurate and not accurate in other ways. Then move on.

I've been unemployed for almost 2 months and know some that are going on almost 2 years! Mom needs to lighten up and daughter needs to get a spine; tell her you appreciate her concern but you have faith and she should DROP the subject until or unless otherwise asked.
