make the local cities and townships carry the responsiblity for project development, not the conservation officer and the courts.

more and more and more. Mansion on the LAKE, mansion in the cities no matter we probably don't use 1/4th of the living space. Biggest boat, biggest vehicle, biggest house, biggest cabin mansion, destroy the lake, destroy the wildlife all a part of us finding ourselves and our happiness. When we're not at the LAKE we're at a mall, concert, movie or sporting event living our meaningless lives through some overpayed athlete, musician or actor that does NOTHING to rebuild our nearly destroyed economy and rebuild the strong confidence in ourselves we Americans once had. I can only imagine how frustrated the DNR must be when they do try to bring some of this waste on the lake in line and find themselves up against a high buck lawyer all paid for the the "Must have MORES".

I work on the lake everyday in the construction industry. I have not seen the water quality go down in the last 25 years. Most people are conscious about what they are doing and are actually using the lake less than before. The people who build on the lake are not there as often as they used to be. We have conservation officiers who do nothing but drive around and others who drive to meetings everyday...I think they are polluting more than the ones they are complaining about.

I drive a car every day to go to work. I haven't seen any evidence of pollution or an increase in lung cancer rates because of so-called "dirty air." Where's the evidence? In fact, it seems as if there is less pollution coming from cars than there used to be. We have police officers who drive around enforcing the law every day...I think they cause most of the pollution by letting their cars idle while waiting to trap speeders.

Again an incompetent approach to administration by a Republican governor. I would rather they protect God's green earth than thump thier bibles...

People who put a 6900sqft home on a 23000sqft lot obviously could care less about the lake, enviroment or anything else. Its selfish home owners, and greedy city councils and county boards that create the problem with our lakes, time to force the counties and cities to enforce the law and adopted better planning and zoning laws.

It's a basin for pesticides and petroleum runoff. I wouldn't let my do swim in it.

In our own personal case, when we evaluated where we wanted to own lake front property for retirement, we looked at both Minnesota and Wisconsin and in the end, chose Wisconsin. The county and local zoning and development restrictions (as well as how they are implemented and enforced) made the difference. The upshot is we will retire to a lake where there is no allowed alteration in natural vegetation within 100 feet of the shore except for a 6 foot wide access to your pier and furthermore, any development within 1500 feet of the lake has to be permitted and evaluated. All of our neighbors have done so and we plan to preserve our piece of lakeshore the same way. When we go out on our lake, we can barely see any of the houses around the lake. When we looked at the research on the subject from an economics standpoint, waterfront property on lakes like ours are worth more than property on lakes where it is developed all the way to the shoreline. In other words, your property is worth more. When comparing similar sized lakes, lakes with stricter zoning are cleaner, have better water quality, are richer in species diversity, and, not unsurprisingly have better fishing. In short, even as a native born Minnesotan I will not remain in the state.

People destroying what they love, and not caring about it. Ignorance and selfishness.
