Citizens will debate new state rules

New, more restrictive rules for lakefront buildings and docks have been drafted and await Gov. Tim Pawlenty's transfer to an administrative law judge who will oversee public hearings around the state.

The assumptions these rules are based on are false. The real reason is a wilderness mentality that says we don't like the 'look' of your cabin or dock or gazebo. It has NOTHING to do with the health of the lake. Notice that nothing is said about helping taxpayers upgrade their septic systems.

The problem is these people are building next to waters that belong to every Minnesotan. Like it or not all of Minnesota's lakes are public waters and just because you may own property ajoining the lake, that water at the end of solid land is not yours. If you are polluting the lake or causing the waters to become degraded, you must pay to rectify the situation.
