CBS barely even mentioned Gabby in the race coverage. Only when she finished 2nd did she get acknowledged, and even then it was only for a second. They chose instead to focus on the 3rd place finisher, simply because she was a freshman from Oregon, the host of the meet. They missed out big time by not touching on Gabby's comeback story. Even the post race interview was with the winner (Florida) and the 3rd place finisher (Oregon). That almost never happens. It's usually the 1st and 2nd place finishers if they interview two. I'm ashamed of their coverage.

I have had the privilege of attending a bunch of UofM track meets. I was so encouraged by the character of the whole team as they surged in support for Gabriele during her ordeal. They are a terrific bunch of young women. Thanks for this coverage! P.S. In response to the person who wondered why CBS focused on the third place winner. I don't think it was just because she is an Oregon athlete. Jordan Hasay has been quite a story in her own right as an outstanding high school and now collegiate. She is just more famous in track and field land at this time, than our Gabriele. So, that coverage was probably inevitable. They just should have covered our Gabriele in addition to these stories.

I just want to say thank you to Rachel Blount for covering track and field and writing this story along with others on Gopher and other tracksters this yr. While track obviously is not as popular as football and some of the other revenue sports that get the most coverage, there are more track fans out there than you might think. Minnesota has a rather large running community that is only continuing to grow. Thank you for recognizing athletes of our sport. I also appreciate the article on a positive success story as opposed to the articles I read in papers all the time that just rip on our revenue sports for doing poorly and focus on negatives rather than teams that are doing well.

Wow,Gabriele, what a inspiration you are! Your Minnesota toughness really shined brightly last week and will continue for you for the rest of your life! I wish you all the best and keep fighting the good fight! Take care and have a great day! Dick Beardsley :-)
