The HSUS doesn't like it to much when they are smeared publicly. They have been doing it to livestock farmers for years.

The Humane Society is anything but. Nineteen million dogs are euthanized in shelters every year, and the Humane Society is the leading killer. It is time for district attorneys to start prosecuting Humane Society executives for cruelty to animals.

This organization is not the nice little community shelter where you purchase lost or abandoned puppies or kittens. This org is a large lobby group spending their money on influencing politians and media. If they really are on the up and up let them fully disclose their funding and spending. Then everyone can make the decision for themselves with facts not more smoke and mirrors.

Of the HSUS. The author here appears to either be an HSUS supporter or ill-informed. They openly have advocated an end to ALL forms of hunting, and they also attack many accepted farming practices as well. The article is accurate in saying this presents a problem for local humane societies--many of whom are not anti farming or hunting in nature and do good work worthy of support. However, because those groups have anti's amongst their members much of the time they won't come out in the open and criticize HSUS.

Open the books and spell out were the money goes rather than say how hurtful a story questioning were the money goes.

The human society has two faces. The one that most people know is the pet adoption the other side is the one they don't want you to know about. The human society would like to outlaw all hunting, make all humans vegetarians and move off land so animals may enjoy it without humans interfering. There is also a dark side to their shelters. They are not all "no kill" shelters.

This is no smear campain. They are NOT the humane society that you get rescue dogs and cats from--they are the largest, most radical animal rights group in the country--worse than peta. As usual, the Strib is rallying for the hippies.

I agree with most of these other comments - the Humane Society is the largest lobbying group against agriculture - they do not accept cattle ranching or the raising of hogs or other animals. They would prefer that all humans were vegetarians and that we never killed another "farm" animal again. I hope more people read this article and the comments and realize that the Humane Society is NOT a good organization that is helping little Fido find a good home - it is just a bunch of politicians gaining money to fight large and small agricultural producers.

If the HSUS has there way - you will not be able to have a companion animal or breed a quality show or hunt line. Animals will have more rights than humans AND I should also add that I consider myself to be liberal but what they have done to intrude on a persons right to hunt, raise animals is ridiculous.
