My girlfriends and I go every year for girls weekend. The townhomes on the 8th fairway is the best option for us because we have 8 - 10 girls each year. At little more on the expensive side, but well worth it! The golf course options are top notch as well! Check this resort out if you haven't already!

So would Maddens have to pay the star trib the same amount for similar advertising?

But now I can't get any work done because I'm thinking about my next vacation.

JIM BUCHTA, This is not news, this is paid programming. The Lodge is quaint, but ridiculously expensive. Also, the now have the added costs of paying for STARTRIB infomercials.

This place is way to expensive and they treat their employee like dung. As expensive as it is you would think they would pay there people more than what they do. Brainerd lakes is just a suburb of the cities bad chain restaurants and noisy lakes. My wife and i ended up here 5 years ago and have been looking to get the heck out ever since. Its like a big high school click where everyone tries to out drink the next person.

Hey, it's ok if you didn't appreciate GVL. Not everyone has to like everywhere they go. But there's no need to disparage GVL's good name just because it didn't suite you. Get over it. Move on. Allow other's to form their own opinion. Our extended family has spent our summers at GVL for the past 35 years. The kids count the days before we will return each year. GVL has NEVER let us down. It is truly one of the most BEAUTIFUL destinations in the state, if not the entire Mid-West.

I'll pass on this resort. I don't have white jeans and a navy blazer - I do like a gin and tonic, but this seems like a hoity toity crowd. I have no interest either in having a total stranger scrub my body and then turn a pressure hose on me, followed up by the equivalent of a torture session of oil dripped on my forehead. Read between the lines on this review - sounds like a snobbish place. I'll stay home and sit on the deck with G and T, then take a nice shower in my own tub. - Probably save about $500 too!

I worked for Grand View in the '90s, and it was a miserable experience. The staff is grossly underpaid and housed in shacks that make college dorms look like the Hilton. I can't believe the reporter bought into the carefully cultivated image so completely -- but then again, so do thousands of affluent vacationers who want a so-called rustic Northwoods experience. Honestly, do some homework before writing a travel story.
