The highly recruited Champlin Park star made headlines because he needed open-heart surgery after high school. But he was also in the news this spring thanks to two citations for underage drinking.

Time to get your priorities in order Sam. School 1, sports 2, partying 3.

Drinking age laws are simply an unjust intrusion into the lives of innocent people. Government and the neo-prohibitionists should mind their own business. But they want to screw up a guy's life because he had a glass of beer. Knowing how your neighbor should live his life, and trying to force that on him, is the worst characteristic common to most Minnesotans.

With all this porgram's legal and academic problems, one would think we could play with the Gators or LSU........instead, we must get the troublemakers the top programs pass on--sad!

A full ride to play football comes with responsible decision making. If you mess up...then you lose your full ride. Now go to JC get your head on straight and lay off the beer. Or just dont get caught. cuase then 3 strikes and you are out, even in football.

realistically a large majority of college kids drink and some receive underage tickets because of it. i love how people on here get such a holier than thou attitude when an athlete gets caught drinking. i'm willing to bet those people talking trash had some brews underage as well. personally, i couldn't care less that any of these guys are having some drinks. they're human. this article is really about that his grades aren't up to par and he needs to go to junior college. enough said.

Watched Sam on the sidelines during last season - he hardly paid attention to the games and seemed to enjoy dancing during the timeouts and goofing off....not a big loss to the program that already lacks tons of committed players.

I did some young and foolish things to. Best wishes to Sammy and all the Maresh family as they overcome the latest trials. Go Rebels! Go Gophers!

I really admire the attitude expressed by the father Bill Maresh. He displays a realistic point of view when he says Sam made the decisions and now Sam has to do what is necessary to get himself back on track. Too often, students and parents tend to deflect blame by pointing fingers at others as the cause of their problems. Not Bill Maresh. Good for you and may you and your son get things going your way again.
