Jimmy Williams stayed with the Gophers coaching staff long after he was cited by the NCAA for violations.

Sid, It would be a crime and assinine for them to extend this guy's contract. He can't manage. He will never learn to manage. This team won't go anywhere while he manages. He is a thirdbase coach disguised as a manager. Knows little or nothing about situation hitting, handling a bull pen, or getting his team up for crucial games. He can't do it.

Watch it, Sid! You're dangerously close to showing pleasure over Jimmy Williams' victory over tubby and the U. You need to decide quickly what take precedence in the Sid pimping and shilling order--carrying the water for an old friend and former influential person in the local sports establishment or sticking with the current establishment that still has the power to grant interviews and access to players and locker rooms. You might be backing the wrong horse on this one, Sidney. Get your shilling priorities in order before you find yourself on the outside looking in.

...without stating the facts of those citiations?.Sorry if I missed it somewhere, but I've Never Read what His Direct Involvement was? Why did Mussleman Exit while the Assistant,(allegedly involved)was allowed to stay on another 11 Years? Among The Violations that lead to Musslemans Departure was that he was aware of a Mr. Harvey Mackay, who Bought Ticket(s) from a player(s), and Mr. Mackay was Giving $ to players for "rent and transportation". Mr. Williams was also on the staff yrs later amd when 3 players were Accused of Rape(and acquitted) in Dutcher era . The U of M cancelled(forfited) a Game against NWestern due to the allegations, and Dutcher Resigned feeling that it was unfair to the team as nothing was proven. Jimmy took over as interim coach. When he wasnt given a shot as the Full time coach he moved on. Yes, from 71-86 there were incidents..Mychal Thomson cost U dearly when he sold a ticket. The Rape Charges, The Mackay incidents which Mussleman addmitted knowledge of.. Other than being a coach at the U for 15 yrs, What was He Directly Cited For? Did he introduce Players to Mackay, could he have stopped the alledged Rape? Did he give Mychal Thompson a ride to sell his Ticket? Truly, if he was heavily involved in any way, the U woulda fired him, not employed him for 15 yrs.

If the Twins are happy winning their divisions and nothing else, then sure, extend his contract. Because he's shown he won't win more than that.

Why would you quit your job and sell your house before you have a signed contract from the U in hand first? Seems there is paperwork for just about everything in life from checking out books at the library to hiring a plumber. What was the reason for moving so quickly without a written contract? Seems you are partially to blame for your dilema.

Like most fans, I'm growing tired of Gardenhire's inability to win the "big" game and win in the postseason. However, probably the saddest part, would be the Twins replacing him with unproven guy like Ullger or Stu Cliburn.

I agree it was not smart for Williams to sell his house and quit his job, but has the wrestling coach been working for years without a contract. I believe Tubby was here for a while before he signed a contract. Stupid is as Stupid does. (to quote Forrest Gump)

Sid, seems like you forgot to put on your maroon and gold before writing today's article. It seems as if the jury thought Smith put Williams' house up for sale and quit his job for him, but Smith did neither.

It's a good thing that the jury in the Williams/Smith/U of M trial have more sense than the posters who constantly ask this stupid question. The $1.2 million verdict pretty says the answer is because Smith offered Williams a job as Asst Coach and Williams accepted. Question answered, case closed.
