Get to work Mr Franken, creating more laws to 'protect' people? Maybe stop identifying yourselves by your sexuality and keep it to yourselves. Sexuality doesn't have a place in the classroom, aren't the kids there to learn about reading, history, math, and science? How have we gotten so far off course?

It's great--I feel like I have my own personal senator. He really stands up and does the right thing--unlike his colleague, who waits and looks around before deciding what will look good on her resume before taking a position. I would be very happy to see someone else in her seat after the next election.

Did you even read the article? This kid didn't say anything about being gay, he wasn't "flaunting" anything, but he was endlessly harassed by other kids anyway. And you blame the victim (who was just a kid, too). Way to stay classy.

Kline says: "We should do what we can to prevent any student from being bullied," Kline said. "But I have serious concerns about any bill that turns our educators into 'thought police' ... Thought Police? Oh come on! Kline, spare us the hypocrisy; if the kids in question were being harassed for their religious beliefs (specifically Christian beliefs) you'd be pushing anti-bullying legislation through the system faster than a rat moves through a pipe. Amazing the excuses and rationalizations right wing creeps like Kline can come up with for inaction when its people they don't like who are being victimized.

Maybe Kline should go back and check some of the recorded statements of politicians during the fight for Civil Rights. He might find a statement, which is eerily similar to his, by a Congressman from Alabama and former member of the KKK, about Civil Rights being applied to schools.

I wasn't real big, and I got picked on. After I tangled with a few guys, and we got suspended a few times for fighting, they figured out I wouldn't be pushed around, and they left me alone. Course, I wasn't gay. But, bully's are just that way, and inherently are cowards. Push back, and you are good to go.

"Our nation's civil rights laws protect our children from bullying due to race, sex, religion, disability and national origin ...... so what you are saying is that gay and lesbian children do not have a race, are not male or female, have no religion, do not have any disabilities or have no national origin. ... making another seperate group to divide our country. Very Sad..... all the laws that are passed and the 10 commandments and the golden rule really is all that is needed.

They get bullied 2-3 times as much as non-nerds. Why does this have to be a federal crime?? Seriously??

so i guess if you're picked on for having red hair or are too skinny or fat or dress all in black or are really smart or stupid you're out of luck? i thought these groups sought equality not special protection and privileges. protection should be a right of all or none.

Hate crime enhancements are wrong. Every person should be treated equally. This just makes the whole issue more devisive and makes the haters more fervent.
