The Rainforest Action Network, whomever that really is, will find that Cargill is not subject to pressure either in the board room, or from stockholders. They do have excellent legal counsel, excellent relations around the world, and money to make problems go away. Maybe the story actually is about money. And a not so subtle extortion

Apparently Minnwest Bank in Eagaon, who was one inch from being shut down by the FDIC signed a letter of Agreement to save them from being shut down. Minnwest Bank is owned by our good friends who are major shareholders of Cargil. Perhaps it is time we start removing them from this pedestal and realize that they are what people think they are.

It is estimated that wild Orangutans will cease to exisit in less than 10 years due to the rapid expansion of palm oil plantations. Not to mention all the other endemic species of plants and animals in the rainforests. It's probably a drop in the bucket but I do not purchase anything with Palm kernal oil, plam oil, palmitate... there are many chemicals that contain palm oil such as Sodium Laureth Sulphate,Glyceryl Stearate,Stearic Acid. Read the labels on not only food products but cosmetics, cleaning products, even toothpaste.

Palm oil and soybean oil are interchangable. You can get much, much, more palm oil per acre than soybean oil. If you limit palm oil production, it will take 5 times the amount of soybean land to replace it. And where to you think that land will come from? Clearing rainforests of course. These people have forgotten to turn the lightbulb in there head on.

All I ever read about Cargill haters is vague accusations. Show me the facts, then I will believe you. This press release even says "possibly breaking Indonesian laws protecting rain forests". There is no possibly in legal matters. Either they are or not breaking the law. I know Cargill has strict directives to obey all local laws, so I doubt this is true. This is nothing more than a publicity stunt.

I worked for them in Singapore and Australia looking for details on Cargill operations and couldn't produce any negative news for RAN to run with. RAN is not interested in the environment. They spend all their time and money attacking corporations for their own left-wing liberal goals and recognition. If a RAN operative can't produce evidence against the corporation they either lie about their findings or are let go by RAN.
