If there were ever a stupid idea, this was it.

Apparently the point of this "protest" was to assert treaty rights. It looked more like picking a fight. If the goal was to win support, this was a lousy PR move. There wasn't much that was diplomatic about this proposed protest.

There was a number of years recently with very poor walleye fishing on Leech Lake, but with all the Cormorant isssues and slot limits the past several years has been good walleye fishing with excellent action and real nice size released fish. Obviously there is a fine balance even on a lake that sized. At the very least don't let them take all there fish before the annual spawning like on Mille Lacs....

After further review, the protest will take place at Morrey's in Motley and actually won't be a protest but an opportunity to sample imitation crab, cheese and crackers.

that they had the arrow in the bow backwards.

Get over it.

They have a treaty. We signed it.

Ya think maybe, just maybe, we could honor just ONE?

The treaty gave this to them for subsistance, they can buy a lot of fish with their caniso profits. Every person in MN should boycott the caniso's every day they net.

To MNGRRRL - Your response proves how narrow and short-sided your thought process is. Small towns, resorts, & numerous small businesses depend on good management practices... Without strong management you end up with circumstances like Red Lake where the state had to rebuild a fishery that was destroyed (was that in the 1855 treaty?)... Or how about Mille Lacs, where thousands of pounds of fish are wasted and dumped for what? So a few tribes can say "I told you so"? People like you make me want to puke!

I have a dream...that one day we will not be judged by the color of our skin...but by our desire to fish in all of the Minnesota lakes.
