Senator Klobuchar shouldn't have anything to do with this. Government has absolutely no place in setting prices for private business. I think the headline of the story should be 'Klobuchar Attempts To Set Prices For Private Businesses'.

What defines a carry-on, anyway? Does a woman's purse count as a carry-on? If it doesn't, should men be able to carry on a small backpack for free? If that's allowed, could somebody bring on bigger backpack, or, even those backpacks hikers use for free? If so, what about a modified roller-suitcase that has shoulder straps that can be used as a backpack? What about one of those larger briefcases that holds a lap top and a billion other things? What about a big baby-supply bag? Those things can be huge! I just don't understand how an airline can say "carry-on" when there really isn't a clear line separating "purse" from "luggage." And, given there is gray area, I think Spirit is just opening itself up for lawsuits the day it allows one passenger's bag on for free, and then happen to charge another person for a similar sized piece of luggage. Particularly so if it's a non-white passenger - they'll claim racism and sue.

Considering that air travel is HEAVALY subsidised by the government ( socialism ) the gov can step in and do some thing for the general public Or is that bad now ?

Wow, the free market took care of this, who could possibly imagine that. Amy will have to find another fake cause to come up with..

When gas prices was $5.00 a gallon my husband and drove to the east coast (Philly) it was cheaper than buying one plane ticket, much less two, round trip. Airlines are getting ridiculous with all the fees they now charge. It's not worth it anymore.

It costs $90 to go over the 50 pound limit for baggage. It does cost extra fuel for every pound, but then why not charge more for hauling the bulk of an obese person that weighs the same as 5 suitcases over the normal limit? Maybe there's a market for fake bellies that you could stuff with a couple hundred pounds of stuff....

. . . . if they really are heavily subsidized, it apparently isn't enough as the entire industry has not turned a cumulative profit since it was founded some 75+ years ago.

from here to Philly?!? Hopefully you had a lot of time on your hands because it took a LOT longer to drive all the way there to save that money. But you do raise a good point: if air travelers are so fed up with having to pay "unfair" fees to fly, they can always drive!

Then i would keep on choosing these airlines when i am flying. And I do that sometimes a lot. Thousands of miles in the sky. I will avoid Spirit Airlines as if it was a leper. I invite others to do the same. Isolate Spirit and refrain from flying with them until they tell their own nexts of kin to fly. They will lose passengers and will be the only ones in the sky like lonely birds and when they go broke, auction all their planes and equipment and the money sent to charity. They should file for bankruptcy toon.
