More! It's like James Lileks books. What were we thinking? Actually, I remember the butterscotch rolls not being so bad..., and I know many people who this is as close to home made as they will ever come to. I remember people pawning off canned salmon souffle with the bones still in it. Aspic salad with Knox gelatin and kidney beans. 50's and 60's cooking were quite awful and adventurous at the same time.

I receive magazines for professional food service. When the economy went bad, all the advice to operators was to include appetizers and desserts in the price of every main course (entrée means before the main course), if they wanted to continue to "sell" a first or last course (or even sell a dinner). Sadly, most ignored what was to be the saving "Trend" and folded instead.

Rick, I have to disagree with your tossing the “Overnight Butterscotch Rolls” into your Regrets bin. Have you ever actually made them? Do you not like sweets? This Taste recipe has been part of our family tradition since its debut, and still graces our table for holiday breakfasts. This simple recipe produces a delectably good, gooey caramel roll. Sure it’s made in a Bundt pan, and sure it’s far from healthy, but to call this recipe out as a regret is a mistake. Make a batch and see if you still agree with your article.

and we did like the overnight Bundt rolls, too. Guess it just depends on your snob appeal, huh?
