What's riding on the 2010 census?

Minnesota could end up losing a spot in Congress -- and federal funds. But as the state becomes a battleground over the count's role, officials play up the census' red-white-and-blue heritage.

That Bachmann's "protest" could wind up costing her a job. Not taking part in the census requires a level of paranoia that I am unable to achieve. To me, it's a no-brainer. Answer a few questions and get an accurate headcount.

I would rather lose the seat than be "Minnesota Stupid"..... Remember, you voted for Obama, not me.

Any state that actually voted al franken and Jesse Ventura into a position of authority probably should be taken out of the political mix.

Why do you always give that free advertising to Representative Bachman? If you would quit bringing Bachman's name up people would forget about Bachman and not vote for Bachman in November.

Illinois will count more dead people then all of Minneapolis has live ones (after all, most of them are still voting), and California will count more people living in vacant lots (on the freeway) than we have people in the whole state. Bill G.

I voted for Jesse, I had no issues with most of his actions, and I still think he was the best choice for Governor running at the time. Franken actually seems to be taking his job seriously in DC. While I didn't vote for him (couldn't since I'm now in Georgia), and while I don't agree with some of his positions, he seems like he might have been a good choice as well. I plan on answering the census accurately and completely, as I would rather see it show accurate numbers than not. Of course, I live in a state now which is growing *much* faster than MN, so it's to my advantage to do so.

Asking people to "hurry up" and give birth? So a bunch of premature babies is preferable to losing a seat to some people. Outrageous! Of course, this is the Star Tribune publishing this stuff, so it should be expected I guess.

The timing is just right for creating cost cutting measures based upon the census. For those participating in the census, issue an ID card. Anyone without the ID card gets cut off from any government services. Hey! If you're "not here" you don't need any services, right?

Bachmann seems to have realized she could lose her seat over this. She's now signed on to encouraging people to fill out their census forms.
