Murder of a Minneapolis muckraker

Newspaperman Arthur Kasherman bashed crooked public officials and gangsters in words "saturated with cyanide." He was gunned down on Jan. 22, 1945, and no one was ever brought to justice. But Kasherman's murder started a movement against mob rule in Minneapolis.

In addition to the latest massacre on Mindanao this is what his going on in the Philippines with one of the highest numbers of murdered journalists in the world. The murder of journalists all over the world is a huge problem. Mexico, Iraq etc.

From back in the day when reporters and newspapers actually reported what was going on rather than what the powers that be wanted to be said. Surprising that the strib ran this as they are as guilty as anybody of this.

So Hubert Humphrey was the political beneficiary of an assassination in which the people who did it were never found. Hmmm, make you wonder.

Humphrey was the beneficiary of the backlash against the killing. Humphrey cleaned this town up. How dare you twist these words to the opposite of their meaning, just so you can smear a Great Man who has been dead for more than 30 years. Makes me wonder how your mind works! Typical Republican.

The story says Kasherman started going after Kline immediately after getting out of prison in 1940. But Kline wasn't elected until June 1941.

Gary Webb exposed the CIA's involvement in bringing narcotics into this country and for his hard work his peers reviled and mocked him. Journalists now contribute to corruption instead of exposing it. Thanks for a good story that reminds me what journalism used to be like before newspapers became corporations first and news businesses second.

Minneapolis has been controlled by democrats for many years. Schools are failing, neighborhoods are more dangerous, and they spend too much money. Maybe the conservatives should be allowed to have a go at it!

Social services would disappear, public schools would close, crime and unemployment would sky rocket, neighborhoods would become far more dangerous and Republicans would still spend far to much and continue to blame the Democrats for the problem.
