Shoppers shook off the economy and bad weather to push sales last month to best showing in two years.

Actually, a year or two ago people stopped running up credit debt because they finally got a hint that it can be dangerous and contribute to economic collapse (as it has done historically), then, because Americans can't seem to remember anything that happened more than 2 months ago, we're like, "hey, how come I don't have any new gaudy crap from Nordstroms. Let's go buy stuff. I'm sure I'll get hired soon. I'll just use Visa".

The economic crisis cause was investment games on Wall Street. That cause is now being replaced by unsustainable government deficits. This spike in consumer spending will end as soon as the various forms start jacking up taxes to pay for their spending binge.

A bunch of Pres Day sale popped the numbers. Target says apparel and household numbers were flat to down. People bought necessities. We're not out of the woods yet.

Maybe they should run a reader poll. In one year from now, St Patty's 2011 will your house be worth more than now? Will your ability to spend on luxuries be greater now or in one year? Do you honestly think the US Economy will be better off in one year? I suspect when people actually think about their situation, they'll see through this blatenet propaganda!

Until the "minimum payments" on the debt Obama took on starts "kicking in".

We need to get out of this "debt without consequences" mindset. We are still enjoying our "credit card vacations" as though they are "free money". And still accusing banks as though they are "greedy" when the payments become due.

Only when this mindset changes ...will the economy "really" get better.
