Coburn not only talked about undercover patients, he spoke at length about the waste regarding fraud in Medicare spending. Schumer just piggybacked on his statement. Coburn stated that eliminating fraud would immediately reduce medicare costs by 15%. Coburn might in fact no what he is talking about since he in fact is a physician. It's pretty apparent which shade of glasses the author of this piece is viewing Obama's summit.
Let's see ... who knows this bill better ... Senator Tom Coburn, who is a physician, or a liberal Strib writer ... lemme think that through. Sorry. Strib loses.
This summit should have been held at the outset. You don't shut Republicans out for an entire year and then insist on their support after you lose your supermajority. This summit was a good idea, but a year too late. ObamaCare is probably going to fizzle, and Democrats have no one to blame but themselves.
rebups were there for over 160 hours of senate floor discussions on health care over the past year. it's been a year and they have no plan, no proposals. they just spent the last 12 months fixated on completely false rhetoric about "death panels", "illegal aliens stealing coverage", "tax-payer funded abortions". they can only blame themselves.
No plan? No proposals? Ever heard of portability? Tort reform? Paul Ryan's Roadmap? Yeah, zero ideas. Tell you what, keep telling yourself that it's nothing more than Fox news and Glen Beck fueling the backlash against ObamaCare. PLEASE keep telling yourself that. Discard any hint of introspection. It'll make for a very pleasant election night in November.
U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK) -- Let's see ranger1873 says "Coburn might in fact no what he is talking about since he in fact is a physician" or NOT know what he is talking about since he is a Republican!
"You don't shut Republicans out for an entire year...." I shut them out all the time -- If more people in this country had done that from 2000 - 2008, we wouldn't be in quite the mess were in now, would we doc?
Actually, Democrats were in control of Congress since Jan 2007. So in three years, one of which with a supermajority AND the Presidency, what have Democrats done? Their impotence is breathtaking. They did nothing to avert the financial meltdown, have approval ratings half that of Bush, and can't get support for their own initiatives from within their party. Frankly, I'm shocked there's still people like you to carry their water for them. But don't worry. The grownups will be back in charge after November.
