The Catholic schools did more than you could ever imagine in providing quality education. The only reason that they Lawyers ever went after them was that they had deep pockets compared to the public schools. The same problems existed in public school teachers-you just can't get blood out of a turnip. So, a great wealth destroyed by greedy lawyers. Isn't crime fun?

What really killed small Catholic schools were all he charters. If you are not happy with the traditional public schools, why pay tuition when you could go to a charter school for free? All those people who advocated charters because they hate traditional public schools are starting to see their chickens coming home to roost.

That really means most of the white families and kids are moving out of the area.

I don't recall any lawsuits but it has been a small school and getting smaller each year. St Bernards is in the same conference as my son's school so we have seen the decline over time. They are simply running out of students. Don't try to pin this on anything else.

Sad headline, Let's not forget some very tragic Church-tolerated-policy lawsuits the Catholic Church lost over sexual abuses of....CHILDREN. And now that virtually every Diocese had Priests involved in it & lost their cash reserves to get lawsuits paid off...it is the lawyers fault. Whatever.

this is so typical of the problem stalking the country.. those who had support in their early years complain about having to pay for it when it is their turn..... I have watched the "selfish decade", one filled with people that had free tuition, one that complained about free tuition for children being unfair when it came their turn to pony up in their earnign years, and help. They turned government expenditures from historic ratios, shifting government resources from primarily on children to less than 20% children and 80% on them.... They complain about abortion and morality and won't give up their money to provide for children. A burden? It's not the schools who are the burden.. It's the leeches who call themselves christians at the expense of children. Bring the money to the pearly gates, so you can show it proudly.

So two catholic schools are closing. Breaks my heart. If we could get ALL the catholic schools to close, it would be the best thing to happen since the Reformation.

The reason St. St. Bernard’s is closing is poor money management. About 5 - 7 years ago St. Bernard’s was in financial trouble. Many people stepped up and raised more than enough money, including getting corporate help from Pillsbury. Instead of putting the money away for a rainy day each teacher submitted a "wish list" of stuff they wanted. So many people involved in saving the school back 5-7 years ago were so upset over the wasting of the money that they vowed to not help the school again, even Pillsbury is not willing to help this time. I can also tell you that while 80% of the students did get financial aid, that the full tuition for this year is so high that it is actually cheaper to send a child to Cretin this year than it was to send the same child to St. Bernard’s.
