Sheletta Brundidge: At last, our princess has come

I just went to the movies and cried my eyes out. I'm talking about shoulders-humping-hot-tears-streaming-down-my-face-meeting-under-my-chin bawling. No, I wasn't watching "Precious," the story of an HIV-positive, illiterate, unwed mother of two who is assaulted by both her momma and her daddy. It was a cartoon that made me cry. I was at a preview screening of the new full-length animated feature "The Princess and The Frog." It features the voices of Hollywood A-listers Oprah Winfrey, Anika Noni Rose and Terrence Howard. Set in an animated New Orleans, the Disney movie tells the story of a beautiful African-American princess, Tiana.

What a beautiful footnote to a year of historic events for the nation, and, especially people of color, no matter what their origins. Finally, this country has begin to redeem the dream of Martin Luther King, and, many others black, white, asian, hispanic, and, of course the first people's. It has been a stressfull year for all of us, and, for those who serve in the nations armed services, and their families, we give thanks for the blessings that we receive every day.

This implies that this country was not redeeming the dream, that is wrong. Prior to MLK Jr. and since we have been making progress. That attitude of what the country can do for you is wrong. People have been fighting for justice for years, the country didi not do it, people did. Get over the victim mentality, be strong and do it for yourself.
