Results of a study on casual sex among young adults surprise U researchers. But they note the physical risks.

I thought this study was about teens, not young adults. Ages 18-24 are ADULTS, and mostly college age--I would be interested to find out the effect on junior high and high school age young people. Considering this report is mostly dealing with those who are either engaged or in long term relationships, it does not tell much to me.

Also, since women's casual encounters were less than half as often as men in that age group, I think another piece is missing in that those women who are more likely to be emotionally scarred by such encounters are not taking as many chances perhaps. Again this one study proves very little.

I agree with RichardRev . . . this study is of very little help. Further, to me, it is more evidence why mainstream media journalism is dying . . . msm is a waste of time with stories like these.

It was just the headline that was wrong. Looks like someone didn't read the story before making the headline.

The U whines about potential cuts. And we pay for a study to show how a "yute" feels after a one night stand? What did this survey cost the taxpayer?

I know I'm just piling on, but only 2/7th of the group are "teens." So you don't know what the study says about "teens" because that wasn't addressed. Second, 18-19 year olds aren't really "teens" as the word is generally used to describe age groups. It should be "young adults." Furthermore, there is a HUGE difference between an 18 year old an a 24 year old. A lot of 24 year old are married and/or even have a kid by that point. In fact, my parents had me when they were 22 and 24 respectively. Yet the story would suggest that it was somehow taboo.

Explains a lot about the direction of the country right now. Guys? If you are getting some - your "self esteem" is good. If not? Not so much. Girls? Well, if you are known by your peers as "skank" - chances are your "self esteem" isn't too hot. Now - where is my stimulus check?

but what are the long term psychological effects of promiscuity?

The same people who whine about the "Nanny State" whenever the government suggests regulating the scattering of spent nuclear fuel rods on school playgrounds are wringing their hands over the prospect that a 24-year-old woman might "someday" suffer second thoughts about her sexual decisions. I trust my adult children to make their own decisions and live with their consequences. But then, I made sure they had comprehensive sex education when they were teens, and I raised them to have self-esteem and self-respect. After that, it's up to them.
