Suit over bridge contract will go to state Supreme Court.
Thank God for Flatiron-Manson, as they did a great job and in record time. I watch them put the bridge together and all the extra man power they put on to get it done in record time. I wish the City of Minneapolis would have hired them, instead of Schafer to do Marguette and 2nd ave. This has turned into a joke, as the City is.
Tim Pawlenty and Carol Molnau refused to make recommended repairs to the 35W bridge before it collapsed killing 13 and costing taxpayers $233 million to replace.
Wasn't Flatiron the only contractor to have given campaign contributions to Pawlenty? Isn't that enough for a contract?
You've got to be kidding, linuxguy. You really think that Pawlenty & Molnau are the only ones to blame here? MNDot didn't follow up and make the recommended repairs. The house & senate didn't appropriate enough money for road/bridge maintenance. The federal government didn't appropriate enough money for road/bridge maintenance. There's plenty of blame to go around. I've voted democrat for the majority of contests I've voted for, although I've also voted for independents and republicans when I felt they were the better candidate. I'm not a fan of T-Paw and wouldn't mind if he were to blame, but I just don't think you can pin it on him alone. This is a problem that will repeat itself if we don't start to commit more money to our aging infrastructure as a nation. Maybe we can start to cut some of the waste some day, and start rebuilding the foundation of our country before we can't afford to do it at all.
Absolutely, Timmy and Carol were grossly negligent in response to frozen roller bearings and bent gusset plates. But that bridge needed to be replaced, not repaired. It just should have been done before it collapsed.
