There are so many American children needing homes. Why bother to adopt outside the US and take chilren from their natural heritage just so you have something you think is cute to cuddle. These aren't plastic dolls. They are human beings.

My heart breaks for Susan Hibbs, and Hillstrom sounds shady, to say the least. I hope that Susan explores foster parenting in Hennepin County, it sounds like she would make a local child very happy.

It's obvious you have no idea what people who want to adopt American children go through as well. It's not so cut and dry. In fact, a woman like Hibbs would have an even harder time adopting than most couples, given the fact that she is single and over 50. Many agencies won't consider her. People don't adopt children because "they are cute to cuddle." People that adopt children are human beings too; shame on you for diminishing their intentions.

it probably is. It's easy to be swayed by one's heart and not involve our brains. I feel for her and believe if she want's to be a 'parent' all she has to do is look around - there are so many children waiting right now in communities around the Twin Cities that want to belong and be loved. Don't waist anymore time.

and then, after being scammed, goes for another. Where do they find these people? I have friends who have adopted from China, Korea, and Africa, who knew enough you had to be there-to the orphanage-and fly home with your children. Unless you're willing to acually go there, I don't think I'd rely on someone who used to sell crafts at the Mall of America. Is this sad or what?

Hey, maybe a single woman in her 50s should not be adopting 3 kids...I personally think she waited about 25 years too long to think about starting a family. Some people simply are not meant to have kids, deal with it and focus on other things in this world that make you happy.

Why do people feel that they have to adopt kids fom foriegn countries? Whats wrong with american kids? It seems like people seek kids of different races like its show-and-tell. "Look at me I'm a good person, but I couldn't show that off if the kid was the same race as me."

As an adoptive couple of two foreign children, my husband and I know that this experience can be one of the richest and most fulfilling that life has to offer. My heart too breaks for Alice Hibbs AND for the Tamara Hillstrom. I cannot help but believe that Hillstrom only wanted to share this marvelous experience with other people, once she had experienced it herself. I think it would be normal to think that those who are working with orphans in Guatemala are honorable people, but unfortunately this was not the case in this instance. My prayers are with you both.
