Patrick Reusse: Can this crew compare to '06? Let us count the ways

Those who believe this 2009 Twins team does not compare favorably to the 96-victory team of three years ago need to look closer.

The games at Yankee Stadium have been close, and now the damn Yankees have big heads. Sure we can beat 'em!

You can never really predict the outcome of any single baseball game, since the best teams win 6 of 10. Should we win tomorrow you can't really predict what would happen in the ACLS, but it would be no less likely to upset the Yankees than to be in the position we are in right now.

But it has been an enjoyable few weeks. Can't believe liriano would even make the postseason roster. Usually pitchers utterly incapable of getting major league hitters out are left off.

What's gotten into you?

Who would you rather have, Liriano or Keppel? Or Manship? I think given the shortness of the series, and given that Liriano MIGHT actually be able to get a batter out in a key spot, Liriano should be the one. Plus, he had six semi-adequate innings (one run, six walks) at Yankee Stadium. But we're counting our chickens before they've hatched. Scott Baker can't have another 6.75 ERA day like he has had in his previous four starts this year against the Tigers.

Mr. Reusse, I believe it was the start of September you stated with pompous innaccuracy that you were to "see the Twins in Fort Myers" because there was no longer a pennant race. Humility is a character quality that can grow but only if it starts with the seed of confession. Go ahead, let your readers and listeners know - you can say it ... "I was wrong." After Twins baseball confessions are done, we can start getting to your political views.

If you aren't going to WIN! If the Twins lose today, the past month has been kind of a waste. This team is firing on all cylinders right now and things are clicking for them when they need them. Hopefully they can ride the momentum tidal wave right over the Yankees in the first round. I think what this team needs EVERY year is for everyone to count them out. It seems they play 10X better when there are little to no expectations. Most people counted them out in this race a month ago, hell the playoff commercials on ESPN feature the Tigers. But somehow when everyone starts counting them out, they always come alive. Go TWINS, Baker, pitch like you've been pitching, Delmon, Cuddyer, and Kubel keep crushing the ball, and fans, GET LOUD IN THAT DOME THIS AFTERNOON, I know I'll be getting loud watching on TV!

In '87 the Twins got hot at the right time and beat a Detroit Tigers team in the playoffs that had wiped the floor with them all season. That's what's great about baseball. You never know what can happen. Guys you hardly ever heard of come through and all it takes is a single play to change a game. Thanks and good luck Twins.
