The Archdiocese is embarking on a realignment in which nothing is off limits to change. But first, input will be gathered.

One in six outstate parishes will shutter, and we'll see more reliance on foreign priests and priests from St. John's Abbey. I predict we'll see one church in every metro county closed.

Too help support the huge $37 million dollar operating budget. There is just as many politics in the church as there are in Washington DC. This is why I quit going to church.

But not for 217! That's $170k for the year for one parish..which is still probably less than one Banker. A parish serves hundreds, and that INCLUDES the living costs of its priests.

The Church needs its reform to come from within, starting in Rome. Arcane rules and traditions are killing it. Until the Church addresses its own institutional poisons, closing all the churches and schools in the world will not help one bit.

I hate big churches with a passion. There is no sense of community. I grew up in a small parish and loved it. Everyone knew each other. The big parishes don't have that same closeness. Thanks to the big churches, I quit going to mass years ago.

I realize that intelligence and reason have no place in our world. People are ignorantly opinionated and bigoted and narrow minded. Fine.

How about paying taxes on property that IS used as a place of worship. I've always said that if all churches had to pay property taxes like the rest of us, the nation's deficit would be solved in a biblical minute.

Last week the STRIB painted a woeful picture of the Cathedral needing another $14 million or more for its (non-critical) restoration, still owing much from it's exterior renovation. That was a "good cause" but now we see that the remainder of the arch diocese has only $37 million for the important work of the church. Anyone else see the hypocrisy in this? How many of these parishes could be saved with this "needed" money for restoration? What a sham

So far 7 of 14 people didn't like my previous comments. Sadly that means 7 people are for pedophilia, sexism, homophobia, tax evasion, liars, and against sex that doesn't involve pro-creation. What a sad commentary on our society.

Your problem is in the first line of your post..."I hate". Don't feel alone. Nearly all of the posters here have the same problem.
