Some of the residents of Lake Wobegon go to Italy. Will one of them cut free and stay there?

Having just read the review, it is interesting to find out that Keillor has written himself into the novel, much to the frustration of the characters. Interestingly, Kurt Vonnegut wrote himself into Breakfast of Champions in order to let Kilgore Trout, his repeating character, go and to say farewell. Subsequent novels leave him out. Perhaps the reviewer here is onto something, realizing what Keillor may have realized- Wobegone is a different place that bears little resemblance to when he began or he is just wanting change. Much of his current commentary has been political and social, a change of direction, so Keillor may be saying a goodbye to his Wobegone world for awhile, whether temporary or permanent, in order to free himself to cover new ground. Hopefully, if he decides to go political, the clever John Tollefson character, from Wobegone Boy, might reappear- John understands very well political falsity and shallowness. Time will tell.
