The U could have found a better date to schedule their TCF open house as the Twins will also be playing their final game in the Metrodome on this date and time.
How nice of the U to allow the common riff-raff into the new stadium for three whole hours to take "self-guided" tours. Just don't touch anything.
Way to find ways to complain about a cool opportunity to see the new stadium. What does it matter if it's self-guided or not, it will still be really nice to see such a beautiful new stadium. I was lucky enough to go to the opener and was blown away by the place.
And should they really consider a new date for the open house when 55,000 of the state's 5.2 million residents will be at the final Twins game at the Metrodome? The article clearly states that it is going along with Homecoming festivities, which means there will be numerous alumni in town visiting that will now have the chance to tour the stadium.
It's also the same day as the Twin Cities Marathon. The runners could use your support if you're looking for something else to do.
55,000 less people to wait in line.
I'll definitely be attending this! I toured the stadium while it was under construction so it will be nice to go back and see it again now that it is finished!
Back when the Gophers offered their preview event for season ticket holders, this board was full of complaints about it being "exclusive" and "what about joe-public". Ironically, this FREE TO THE PUBLIC event had already been scheduled prior to all that complaining. Fast forward a few weeks and this article is followed by more complaining directed at the time and style of the FREE event. There truly is nothing off limits to the complait mongers hanging out on the Strib boards.
Why are the Gophers not on local free TV???
After 27 years of playing third fiddle behind the Vikes and Twins I think the U deserves to snub 'em. Also, the Gophs are out of town that weekend so there will be no interference with practices, game day prep/clean up. For some reason a majority of Minnesotans can't seem to understand that this facility is used almost every day of the week, by the football team or other Athletic Dept/Music Dept students, faculty and staff...oh and it is available to the public for event reservations too, for a fee yes.
1-4 on October 4 is the exact same time the Twins will be playing their final game at the Metrodome. This is in addition to the Twin Cities Marathon. Bummer they couldn't do these tours at a more convenient time for stadium enthusiasts.
