It's good to see the U take a calculated risk. Development of a strong program now will provide benefits for decades.

Clearly, private research and companies are core to the state's economy. But it'll be interesting to see how any of this relates to the in-the-classroom *educational* purpose of the U as well. Fueling what appears to be high-end/corporate/patent research -- if it starves students -- is a tightrope to be sure.
