Twins reliever R.A. Dickey thought he needed a ligament he didn't have. Now he's all knuckles.

This is a great article. I did not realize that Cuddyer and Gomez did not have UCLs as well. Well done. Thank you

Whereas I don't think that Dickey will be a Cy Young candidate ever, I think Souhan does a really good job of researching columns and presenting interesting pieces. A lot of columnists rely on opinion and hyperbole, accepted tools of the trade. Souhan has those also, but does a nice job uncovering interesting angles.

Nice article. Different topic. Good comments by Dickey. I didn't know what to expect when the Twins signed him, but he has been the most consistent reliever on the whole squad. Let's all hope he is with us for several more years.

What's Billy waiting for? This guy could be the Twin's version of Tim Wakefield for the next ten years. Give him a two or three year extension NOW!

Although I normally enjoy your columns, this one really popped. Maybe it is because it is not soley an opinion piece, or perhaps because the info was so interesting and personal... don't know. It just hit the right spot. Good work!

I am critical of the Stars writers because they usually have an agenda driven slant. They hide the facts they don't want out and promote some untruths to suit the editors taste. This article was a breath of fresh air, well written, informative and factual. If there were a couple more Souhan's on the staff I would still be taking this paper.

Was dependent on how he is used. Early on, Gardy would bring him in with on runner on third, the bases full, etc. Worst case scenario for a knuckleballer. Now that Gardy has figured out how to use him, he is much better.

I know I run the risk here of sounding like a public relations guy for the StarTrib (I'm not), but here goes. One of the facts that confronts sports columnists is that there actually isn't always something interesting to write about, and there's gonna be a big hole in the paper if they don't write something, so they do an opinion piece, fill up the hole, and remain employed. Also, this idea that they "hide" the "facts" - this is ridiculous. They might not write everything they know about - if they wrote everything they knew about professional athletes they'd very quickly be writing X-rated material - but they don't "hide" relevant material or "promote some untruths to suit the editor's taste."

Maybe someone should teach Gomez the knuckler and he might end up the opposite of Rick Ankiel.
