Tribal gambling isn't suffering the way Nevada is -- and that could be good news for Scott County and its biggest employer.

If you lived in a casino community like I do and saw the behavior of the recipients of your gambling money, you'd quit gambling. All your hard earned money is going to boost alcoholism and crime. Check the crime statistics of the city of Redwood Falls, just six miles from Jackpot Junction.

So people are staying closer to home to gamble and not traveling to Vegas. It works.

Mis-take Lake won't get one dime of my money. It's a suckers paradise. The largest employer in Scott County, what a joke, they pay the same wages as Walmart...oh boy!

let the federal govt set up the native americans and now they boast how they are so grand for society when it's society who makes them tick. What a bunch of donkey dung. Largest employer sure but that's because the U.S. sold out most of our jobs and now people need employment so they go to work in a $12 hour casino gig. The tribe should not be allowed to take any tax acreage out of any county. I haven't figured out why the fed and state govt is selling us out on this fiasco but this is totally unamerican!. I can't believe Americans keep supporting this but they are sick puppies who need to give their money away! The mob must be losing it's touch or it has it's touch in this show also.

I believe it's treaty rights. You know, those agreements signed years ago to end wars or gain lands...some have some interesting clauses. If your family has been here as long as mine, your great-great-grandparents may have not had to fight or worse due to these treaties.

Let's have a list of who doesn't get taxed now that should be. # 1 - tax the churches. Tax them all, all their property. Then legalize weed and tax it, too. Then, if the state and national debt still aren't paid off (unlikely), tax Indian casinos. I only wish this could happen.

Gaming at Canterbury and MOA! What budget crisis?

Sounds like a manipulation of the numbers. The slots at Mystic are clearly tighter and it is alot easier to find a spot at the blackjack tables these days. Plus, the folks hanging out there aren't exactly high rollers but instead are teenagers and lower-income minorities, which, bless all their hearts, are getting lured in by the prospects of hitting a jackpot. Too bad the books can't be opened, though I dare not to criticize the operation as the US history of giving these people the shaft is downright embarassing and allowing them to run casinos on their land is fair in my opinion. From welfare families to millionairies pumping millions on goods back into the economy. Not so bad. We just need to keep producing non-native Minnesotans (defined as suckers in many minds) to keep dropping 20s into those slot machines.

It already taxes low-income suckers who buy lottery tickets, so the morality issue is irrelevent to the discussion. If we put one in at the MOA we will take money from tourists, which is even better. Although the Mille Lacs band uses their gains for the community rather than enrich individuals directly, we need to give them an ultimatum: end the netting of walleye on Mille Lacs or we will open a brand new casino in Brainerd.
