Primary election day would move about one month earlier, to the second Tuesday in August, under a bipartisan agreement reached Monday by a House-Senate conference committee. That's a salutary change in the state's election calendar that the full Legislature should accept, and Gov. Tim Pawlenty should sign into law.

There is nothing magical or a fixed requirement to have to vote on one Tuesday. Perhaps we should celebrate our democracy and have that Tuesday be a state holiday. We should allow early voting as well. Perhaps start the Friday before and run through Tuesday.

Way down south in Georgia, guess the powers there aren't afraid of their voters. I get the feeling that the people with the power aren't really keen on allowing Minnesotans easy nor convient access to the poles or the vote. It sounds like time for citizens to draft an ammendment, gather the required signatures and get early voting on the ballot and see where the chips fall. Although from reading the many comments that have been posted lately it looks like many conservatives are not very excited about too many people turning out to vote. Could it be true the DFLers don't either?
