With new races in Minneapolis and Stillwater, long-distance runners have options in Minnesota other than the Twin Cities and Grandma's in Duluth.

I am glad that there is competition for marathons in the area. And thank you for the bad press about the ridiculous hotel prices in Duluth. Yes, they have the right to charge whatever they want and I in turn have the right to avoid Grandma's until hotel costs are more reasonable.

Congratulations Gloria Jansen! But there's shorter race distances than marathons (26 miles!) I'll have my fun with the Brian Kraft 5k (3 miles) on Memorial day, and Depot 1/2 marathon (13 miles) on May 31! http://www.runmdra.org/ http://www.raceberryjam.com/indexrr.html

Unlike the more reasonable 5k and 10k race distances (which can be plenty grueling if you run them fast enough), running the 26+ mile distance all at once is proven to be somewhat injurious. It's ironic: many people assume that because running and training is generally a healthy thing to be involved in, more is better. Plus, there's the bragging rights that seem to go along with,'yeah, I ran a marathon'.

Grandma's Marathon is a nice location but their drinks food are of poor quality. For a marathon that's been around forever, they lack quality.
