The patient had surgery to remove his appendix and was sent home. Two days later, he was told to come back to St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee; The surgeon told him he had mistakenly removed a “piece of fat” instead.

What's his name? If this guy is standing over me with a knife, well, that don't work for me. Forget malpractice. Isn't this assualt with a deadly weapon? Sure he was well doped before the cutting started, why would that matter.

How is the hospital not liable for any of this? Do they not have more checks and balances in place? When my appendix was removed, the lab did a byopsy of the removed organ prior to my leaving the hospital the next day. My appendix was removed laparoscopically, there was little pain, and I only spent 20 hours in the hospital. But the hospital did not release me until it was clear I was healthy. Instead, this person gets sliced wide open, via old arachaic surgery methods, and must bear the brunt of a huge scar his whole life.

Unfortunately, the checks and balances probably got kicked to the side...by the insurance company who wants you out of the hospital ASAP.

He's calling the shots after all. The hospital did the right thing by calling the patient back before his/her appendix ruptured. Not sure what else the hospital could do except offer to pay for the second surgery. I'm sure the insurance company wasn't keen on paying it anyway.

My late buddy Jared went to a Cambridge, MN hospital with really bad stomach pains about 6 years ago. The doctor sent him home with a perscription and said he had a bad stomach flu. Later that night, he collapsed down his stairs and died with his fiance and 6 month old baby standing over him. He was 24 years old! RIP Jared Pouliot

St. Francis has some of the best ER docs in the state. A patient arresting in CT scanner has nothing to do with the quality of the hospital staff. It could (and does) happen anywhere.

Sorry, but if you're really sick, you don't want to be at Ridgeview. I've been there and have seen dirty syringes on the floor. Yuk. How much did they pay you to write that comment?
