Local wineries want more latitude to offer tastings off-site, to help boost their fledgling industry. But alcohol distributors have fought off a change in state law that would allow it.

MN residents can't buy wine on Sunday, or any other form of alcoholic beverage, but in South Dakota you can. Maybe Minnesota can come forward and update their liquor laws to the 20TH CENTURY and possibly into the 21st century. It's almost like living in Mississippi.

One of the defenses offered on the highly restrictive off-sale county laws in Minnesota is to reduce alcoholism. The problem is that alcoholics prioritize buying alcohol and are not inconvenienced by liquor stores closing at 8:00 PM or not being open on Sundays or not being able to buy adult beverages in grocery stores- they buy ahead. It's mostly Joe and Jane Average who are inconvenienced by these laws- unable to buy a bottle of wine to have with dinner on their way home from working late.

My wife and I enjoy wine and beer responsibly. I know that's a really hard thing for Minnesota to understand, but try anyway. The no-grocery stores is what bugs me the most. The Sunday thing is bothersome. Let's fix these jurassic laws please.

MN has too many restrictive laws around alcohol! What is wrong with our legislature? Why do they bow down to special interest groups and keep limiting our adult choices? Let us buy wine at a grocery store, let me get a six pack on Sunday, and let these little wineries enjoy some tastings! Get off our back!

We have so many people out of work and these small wineries are trying to provide an income for their families. Does our goverment help? Nope, lets put every roadblock we can think of in their way. Here is a hint: if they earn a living they pay taxes! If they do not we have to support them.

is that these growers and winemakers can sell their wine on Sundays because it is technically "produce". At least they haven't taken that away from them...

You would be surprised at some of the quality wines produced in MN. Given the limitations with type of grapes that can survive here, some of these Vintners are really skilled. Alexis Bailly in Hastings comes to mind, if you haven't tried it, you should.

that produces some fantastic wines is the Scenic Valley Winery in Lanesboro.... If you like a good dessert wine, Purple Passion, Raspberry, Cherry Chill, etc. will please your palate....Excellent quality and assortment....
