Alice Rainville did a LOT for Minneapolis, particularly the far north & northwestern neighborhoods the article mentions. As a long time resident of those areas I can attest to her heart and dedication to her city. Her work is still greatly appreciated and she will be missed.

I believe that you meant Rainville's DAUGHTER now represents the ward and is the current council president.

I had many dealings with Alice over the years as the owner of a City licensed business. Every occasion whether we were allies or opponents of an issue were dealt with directly and fairly without hesitation. The City of Minneapolis is a better place because of Alice Rainville. May she rest in peace!

skmv59: isn't that what the article says? Rainville's daughter, Barbara, now represents that ward and is current council president.

Alice Rainville served the longest as council president in history, not merely in the last 50 years. She was president for 10 years, from January 2, 1980 to January 2, 1990. The previous record was six years, held by her immediate predecessor Lou DeMars, and also by George Martens, who served non-consecutive terms. (Second place is now held by Jackie Cherryhomes, who was president for eight years.) I don't think I've ever heard of Northwest Minneapolis before.

But she did not get a vikings stadium built!

Of course she did, ssolz. She was council president when the Metrodome was built. It is not her fault that the Vikings want a new one again.

Unfortunately, claiming she helped move the city forward is debatable.
