It's part of the transition to all-digital television. All broadcasters will do the same by June 12.

Switch it over and get on with it. Its not like the world is going to end if people can't watch their TV for a couple of nights.

This has been in the planning stages since 2005. You'd almost think that if people had not gotten ready in 4 years, what are the chances of them getting ready in the next 4 months? I saw an example of a person eith in the trib online ot AOL's website. They showed an older man sitting on a hospital bed in his house. The caption was that he cannot get out of his house and does not drive. So my question was this, what will change for this man in the next 4 months??

They held up their end of the changeover. They shouldn't be required to spend the additional cost of broadcasting in both formats.

Honestly, this is ridiculous. TV is not an essential public service. I know people need TV to babysit their kids, etc. Maybe try those packages of dead tree parts with ink on them once in a while.

For their weather?? Apparently that is now thing of the past.. a TV Dinosaur. You can't get this new TPT WX on anything except a converter box. That is kinda crummy and really poor planning. - http://www.tpt.org/program/digital_updates.html

Some stations in my area did pull the plug yesterday but the wealthy big boys from Philly are still going strong. I can't wait until they all go off the air.

On a good day, I got three and a half analog stations with my rabbit ears. Now with digital, I get a full lineup plus some extra subchannels in a crystal clear picture. I still spend more time reading, watching my Netflix, or listening to music, but it's nice to have anyway.
