Cancel the "Al Gore" science green roof for the Target Center. Some the half million "art pork" fountains. Eliminate the $60K+ bicycling coordinator, Supposedly "Islamic" Sharia law "loans" and drastically cut the "Office of Sustainable Development".
How about spending money on low cost streetcars? These figures for street car construction are ridiculous. 50 years to build a network? Only in DFL Minneapolis!
Do it cheaper with state prisoners!
She is making $80,000 a year doing a non-essential desk job!
I believe he has 11 or 12 people on his "staff" that likely make close to six figures. These people are directors or heads of a number of useless initiatives the city has, which is many. I bet the $50k water fountains are still a major priority for RT!
The question is more why it costs so much to do everything. No one wants fewer cops, but why does a department this size have about 30 people earning over $100,000 a year. Check the Trib Info Center. It has 2007 salaries for the highest paid city officials. Probably over a hundred making $100,000 or more and these are 2007 numbers.
They get FREE parking? Why?
Rybak should be getting an earful for the fact that Minneapolis is # 20 in crime out of the whole U.S. - this puts Mpls. one notch above D.C. !!! And he wants to be Gov.? -- it boggles the mind.
In Minneapolis there are currently 13 city council members who all make well in excess of 100,000. plus vehicle compensation, etc. Now in Los Angeles they only have 7 city council members, and they might not even be full time. New York is similar. Just food for thought
RT "Milktoast" Rybak's PC politics do not work!
He ran the READER into the ground, now he's doing the same thing to Minneapolis. Lets get someone in there with some "Kahunas." I've personally witnessed his staff in action. They are the bigest bunch of "do-nothings" I've ever seen. He should be ashamed
First off, no one in the Mayor's office makes 3-figures (RT included) - do your homework. Also note that if you want good city services, you have to pay for them, this includes paying smart, dedicated people to do the job that you all CLEARLY do not understand. To attack all employees is a cheap shot. If you're really gunning for the City employees, take a look at the Unions. This is where you'll find the dead weight.
And as a final though, cut the guy some slack. I'd like to see you balance the demands of nearly 400,000 people and all the issues that come with it. It's easy to take a shot at what we don't understand - but if you people would actually educate yourselves about the issues, you'd find your own comments to be petty and self-righteous.
