Enormously talented New York Times writer Dexter Filkins deserves a break from war coverage every so often. In case you missed it, Filkins recently weighed in with a nice sports story from Pushtesurkh, Afghanistan. The name of the game is buzkashi, which means "goat pulling.'' In this rough form of polo, 15 men on horses try to capture a beheaded goat. "Afghanistan may be in the midst of interminable war,'' Filkins writes, '' but buzkashi is eternal, too. The world has grown up, but the game lives on.'' The story made us wonder if those in charge at ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Conn., are paying attention. There's a lot of air time to fill on the many ESPN stations, so is it too much to ask for a little buzkashi coverage?
