So, was Alex's operation on his bottom, or was the inscription on the bottom of the note? And, kittens being eliminated in the process of making a fruitcake would be a good thing.

Mothers brother baked the cake, Alex ate some cake, (see the bite mark in pic) after digesting the cake, he quickly ended up in the hospital where he had an operation on Xmas day. The operation was not successful, he died two days later.

Sounds like her Uncle Alex baked the cake in Dec 1911, then took ill and had surgery on Dec 25 and died on Dec 27. That's what it sounded like to me, anyway. She probably kept it without cutting it in memory of her Uncle. Interesting. I find stories like this fascinating.

I could maybe, MAYBE see having this displayed behind glass in some sort of local history museum...but at a holiday party??! Where food and beverages are being served? I would be vomiting.

There's also the old saw about 2 brothers who have been sending the same fruit cake back and forth for Christmas for years. This story seems as apocrypical,
