There's a law on the books that says neighboring school districts have to be relatively close in the percentage of minority students they have. Burnsville and Lakeville were "caught" by the state for having too much of a discrepancy - Burnsville's minority percentage is significantly larger than Lakeville's. So, Burnsville received well over $1 million to come up with a plan to correct this problem. They came up with a STEM magnet program, supposedly to lure gifted white students away from Lakeville (remember, the problem is that Burnsville has too many minority students). Now Lakeville will use additional money to lure the gifted minority students away from where to come there? We're pumping a couple million dollars to shift racially divided gifted students from one suburb to the other. Does no one else see how bizarre this is???!!!
