Thank you so much, Amy Klobuchar and Keith Ellison, for helping Ratchet! And a BIG thank you to Northwest Airlines for offering to fly Ratchet out of Iraq. Hearing that the dog is okay and should be coming home soon just made my night. Considering what Sgt. Beberg is doing for her country, I think it's only fair that she be allowed to have her dog!

I thought we lost focus – what is more important then a soldier who blatantly disobeys direct orders, is busted to the rank of private, wastes thousands of dollars for her selfish needs, pulls the political vultures in to get their free pub, and all this for a dog. I mean, the Humane Society euthanizes dog daily. What can we do for them? We should create a website, sign a petition, um, um, wait, their just dogs……

I have to admit I'm torn on this issue... I love dogs, and I know I'd do darn near anything for my pup, but I also respect the laws and orders of the United States Armed Forces. The rule is quite simple - No pets, no way, no how. What lesson are we teaching young people here? Oh, it's okay to disobey orders if it's for a cute cuddly fuzzy reason? I hate to say it but if you're going to give her dog back or not, she has to be demoted or otherwise disciplined - You do the crime, you do the time! Not only that we have Senators and Congressmen making phone calls and calling in favors for a dog?! It's a good thing there's nothing important going...on...right...wait...Whoops. Anyway, I signed the petition because it did indeed tug on my heart strings (and I'm secretly glad this soldier got her dog back), I swear my dog made me do it, with the big puppydog eyes looking up at me...just don't tell my former commanding officers!

This Dog was her lifeline over there. I know her personaly and she has had a it hard over there since being sent back. Her time was up last year when she was sent back. She has tired to keep herself from going insane by not thinking about what is going on over there. But thats alittle hard. She will be done soon and back in the states. Shes been though alot that people don't know and will nevver know until they talk to her. Since she found this dog it has helped her cope with the war over there. I even know people who got drunk over there and took meds to stop the pain they go though from being there. They come back here worst then when they left. Animals over there become more then just a pet. One other rule is no drinking but they still do... What about that? thats one that has always been broken but we don't care much about that one.

The media reports a "feel good" story from Iraq. It only took them 5 years.

I spent a year on a Middle East deployment two years back. As a part of the Senior Enlisted Leadership we spent more time dealing with living quarters squabbles, folks trying to make the ferrel cats pets and why my Xbox won't plug into electricity without a converter. We have an All Volunteer Armed Forces which is made up of the most motivated and educated young people. They have just been raised in a more allowing and "sensative" society. We get what we allow. The shame is that we don't rely more on each other, as humans and friends, to deal with PTSD and the stress of daily living. Instead we turn to animals, video games and booze to deal with these issues. It has to do with trusting each other. The focus definetly shifts from the mission. A few of us Senior Folks would wonder out loud..."How did we win World War II without air conditioning"?

I have a soft spot in my heart for dogs and the relationships people form with them. So I can imagine the love between Sgt. Beberg and Ratchet. I can hardly begin to fathom the suffering of an Iraqi who has endured the horror of war physically, mentally, spiritually. I have owned a dog, but I have never seen a bomb crater or a severed body part in person. I am middle age, and I have never heard even one sound of combat.

"US forces were simply unable to provide the transportation, deeming the trip to the airport an unnecessary risk to soldiers’ lives." -FROM ALL REPORTS HE WAS ON A TRUCK IN A CONVOY THAT WAS ALREADY HEADED TO THE AIRPORT , NOT A SPECIAL TRIP JUST FOR HIM..... DUH! "US soldiers in Iraq are prohibited from bringing home stray dogs but the Department of Defense has made exceptions in the past." -OBVIOUSLY AS THERE WERE 6 OTHER DOGS BEING EVACUATED TOO "Our military working dogs carry rank and are afforded many of the rights and privileges of their fellow soldiers," he said. "Ratchet is a wild dog indigenous to Iraq. A stray, befriended by a soldier. As such, we do not control him, nor can we 'order' him not to leave COP Meade." - SO EXACTLY HOW DID HE GET OFF THE CONVOY TRUCK AND BACK TO COP IF HE WAS ALREADY ON HIS WAY? WHICH IS IT ?? I SEE SOME FAST BACKPEDALLING BY THE MILITARY.

Who cares about some stupid mutt and an overgrown child who threw a fit until she got what she wanted? This is ridiculous and shows the type of issues Klobochar feels are important. What a joke!
