Definitely a cut above average, but not quite in the "to die for" category. I did like that the sweet items aren't cloyingly sweet like most places turn out. But, prices are too high (or sizes are too small), and some items I've tried, I wouldn't buy again. Rick the Over-Rhapsodizer must have a sweet tooth.

I am a baker from Minnesota that moved to Las Vegas in 1980. My first job in town was as the Assistant Pastry Chef at the Desert Inn. I was making macaroons from scratch way bake then. So please, give me a break.

I actually tried Salty Tart the first time this last weekend. The cookie I had was really good, and I really enjoyed the fact that it wasn't too sweet (like mensan's comment). I could see how it would be overpriced if you were trying to buy in bulk. One cookie for $1.50 isn't bad, but multiply that by a dozen and it would be a bit much. I also bought some sourdough bread, but I found that I like the bakery that I frequent more often much better. If you want some great sourdough bread, check out www.breadcoffeecake.com near downtown St. Paul. The owner is extremely nice (including donating to local charities), and his fresh baked breads are so good that you've never guess how healthy he actually makes them (obviously not including the dessert items). On top of his sourdough, I would recommend any of his muffins, cinnamon rolls, cheddar biscuits and the cherry almond bread (only baked on Saturdays).

I was at Byerly's earlier this week and they had cookies at $10.99 a pound. I bought 2 cookies for a total of $3.78. They cookies were pretty marginal and, though I've yet to visit Salty Tart, I'm sure Salty Tarts kicks their lardy azz.

As someone who works in the Midtown Commons I appreciate her moving into the Global Market. Anything that I buy from her is AMAZING! And everyone that works there is very outgoing and friendly. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

If you're looking for cheap baked goods, go to Cub. Plainly, you get what you pay for, and it is worth what she charges compared to other high end bakeries (not that we have enough around here). However, my favorite part is that she is accessible and fun and she obviously loves what she does. A little overdue in this review I think.
