I'm a life long fan of hip hop. My parents had records of Sugar Hill Gang, Grand Master Flash, Run DMC, and others as I grew up in South Minneapolis in the '80's. I used to be out at the corner breakdancing on cardboard with my friends. I noticed that the political voices in hip hop were generally left leaning, which was fine with me at the time, because I didn't think about poliitics too much when I was younger, and I was probably left leaning myself, to some extent. Now-a-days, as a 30-something family man, I know that I am a lot more right leaning on most issues, being the pro-lifer that I am.

Some of the overly-partisian rhetoric from lefties like Atmosphere bother me sometimes, especially when they make comments, posted on YOUtube, about how they don't want John McCain supporters to listen to their music. They have great music, but let's respect opinions from both sides of the aisle. In regards to Daddy Yankee, he is a pioneer of the current Latino music movement. Because of his song Gasolina, regaeton blew up. For Fat Joe to call him a sell out, is just wrong. If anything, he's the exact opposite of that, because he's going against the popular thing to say. Also, as a person, Daddy Yankee is cool as can be. He's a great husband who publicly proclaims his love for his wife. He also has made tracks with a disabled kid who goes by the name Valien-T, not because there's money to be made out of it, but because he is a genuine person. Daddy Yankee is an authentic, real, hip hop artist, who has paid his dues and deserves our respect.

The printed version of this story (in Wednesdy´s Convention section), had a protest sign on the other side of the page that said something like ¨Hip Hoppers againts Republicans¨or something to that effect. Check it out, fam, that´s the real.
