Franken's numbers are up, but Independence Party's Barkley appeals to voters who don't like either major-party candidate.

I don't plan on voting for Coleman, Franken OR Barkley, but this is totally irresponsible terminology. In an ordinary democracy there aren't just two insider candidates to pick from. The Olympics, AAA hotel rating system, Amazon.com reviews, and others practice probably the fairest voting mechanism of all: Range. Everyone gets to vote, independently, on all candidates. Some get 10's, 5-stars, or whatever. And some don't. Whoever gets the most points in the end wins. Sad that the Olympics or Amazon.com is more democratic than our "democracy". If anything should be a "spoiler" to democracy, it should be the "two" party system and how it's locked out anyone not hooked into their corporate/insider channels.

I was complaining earlier today when the Strib reported on this story without differentiating Barkley's numbers from those undecided. At the time it would have been perceived that nearly 20% of those polled were still undecided which of course was patently untrue. I'm glad it was finally decided to call attention to Barkley's numbers in this poll. Barkley should indeed be considered a spoiler at this point, but with some luck he could be a contender.

Barkley isn't your typical unknown, he is a former US Senator, and people have a strong favorable opinion of him.

Why do Minnesotans love door knobs for their political leaders? Is it a sense of comedy, winking at the absurdity of the political scene? The idea of comedic goofus who has never served in political office or lead a small town parade....Al Franken, could end up representing Minnesota, is mind warping. Norm Coleman could never be that incompetent. But then there is Jesse, so maybe it self loathing, like you don't deserve a competent representative of what is the best of Minnesota. Al Franken? Really?

He's right on the issues and his roots in Minnesota are greater than Coleman's. His wife, Frannie, is a hoot, and Al is and always has been a great family man.

That means Coleman is WAY WAY ahead. Strib polls are always and wrongfully in favor of the liberal. Probably gonna be 60/40 Coleman then.

Uh, Superv, this wasn't a Strib poll. Maybe you should actually read the story before you comment. Coleman supports DO read, don't they? Don't they?

MPR polls are the only thing more off than Strib polls. After all, the MPR is nothing more than an arm of the DFL.

Franken has a message of change? You have got to be kidding. His campaign has been nothing more than tearing down the other guy. What does he stand for? Very hard to tell. Coleman is being disparaged, but look closely at how he has stood behind and for Minnesota. Ford plant, getting the bridge up faster with Klobuchar, The Wild, etc. Keep Norm in and do not beleive all the gutter talki coming out of Franken's camp.
