it is up to the twins starters to do what blackburn did tonight pitch well through the seventh inning, perkins cruising with a shutout then giving up three homeruns in an inning is what they cannot do. the fact is the young starting five will have to step it up, this is a maturing phase for these young pitchers the heat is on now lets see what we got
We need to find a starter (Washburn) and move Perkins to the pen. He'd excell in late game situations.
A. The Twins tried to trade for Washburn but Seattle was asking for too much (reportedly a starter) B. Perkins is 10-3 with a 4.17 ERA this season in 19 starts compared to Washburns' 5-12 4.58 in 23 starts (24 games), so why is it that Washburn is a starter and Perkins is not? Washburn hasn't won more than 11 games since 2002, while Perkins will almost surely surpass that number in his first season as a starter.
Aside from his enormous salary and the fact that we couldn't get the M's to trade him anyway, look at his most recent performance against the ChiSox to see why we don't really need him.
4.1 IP 8 ER
Yet another column that leads with a history lesson.....
Is it possible Guerrier (and/or other Twins pitchers) are 'tipping' their pitches?
Replace Perkins in the rotation with Washburn? He's 5-13 with Seattle and has an ERA around 5. He gave up 8 runs in less than 5 innings against the Sox last night. Washburn is not our savior, he's another Bonser.
Guerrier and Crain both need to go. Both guys are uneffective and have given up way too many runs and baserunners late in games. I know it won't happen this year but it should. Pretending that these guys are good or effective or not that bad as they seem isn't reality guys.
Wasburns a washed up never was who hasn't had a winning season in four years and an ERA pushing 5. He's not an upgrade to Crain or Guerrier much less Perkins. Plus he's about 10 years older, so there's NO upside. If they are going to spend big bucks, get big talent.
Then typically flounders soon after that. Our bullpen is a train wreck. Livan Hernandez had 10 wins too, so pointing to Perkins record doesn't impress me too much.
