As tragic as this event was, Jim was able to put out one heckuva column — giving the reader an inside glimpse how much the Bachmans meant to the USA Volleyball team and how much they supported their daughter. My heart goes out to the Bachmans during this sad, difficult time.

Bachmann's has been a floral fixture in Minnesota for years. Whatever this man tried to accomplish by such a horrific act is beyond my comprehension. May the Lord God Almighty and his Son Jesus Christ hold this family in his arms.

Life definitely isn't fair. At least it sounds like he led a full life and left a wonderful legacy behind with his family. RIP

Great job of reporting and column writing in most difficult of circumstances. Remember when Mr. Souhan wrote this--in the wee hours of the morning China time.

Your family has provided flowers for thousands of families in the Twin Cities area over the decades as they grieved for their loved ones. Your arrangements have reminded us of the beauty of life in our darkest hours. We may not necessarily be sending flowers, but we now return the favor by thinking of you, your family and your extended family of Bachman's employees at this difficult time. God bless each of you.

Jim Souhan is the next in a long line of great columnists employed by the Strib... Cullum and Johnson among them, including Pat Reusse. They've covered beats, paid their dues, and do human interest stories. I think Souhan would rather do Gonzo journalism, than to have to write a story about a tragedy for a MN family at the Olympics. What he wrote was from the heart. How can anyone not like the Bachman family, whether you know them or not? Great job, Jim. Thank you.

The Bachman family must know the thoughts and prayers of Minnesotans are with them right now as they go through this most difficult of times. Thanks for your piece Jim.
