FORT MYERS, FLA. – The Twins begin playing spring training games Friday, which means that we should stop paying attention to everything that happens from now until the regular season begins.

We would be "wasting" money if we upgraded our lineup? Only if you assume we have prospects that will succeed in the majors at all positions. Souhan, that is ridiculous....we need more quality major leaguers, not just hope that all the prospects pan out.

Stop making excuses for Pohlad being cheap.

Clearly, our local reporters were in Fort Meyers drinking the Twins Koolaid.

Yesterday, during the WGN broadcast of the Cubs game, the announcers stated that the Cubs had the best development system for prospects in the major leagues, followed closely by the Minnesota Twins. I will be blunt. I don't think the Twins can wait another year to bring the best and brightest up. I know the fans won't wait another year. I don't care how many games they lose but they are going to learn more here than in class A. All you have to do is think back to a similar situation, where the Twins finished worst with young players, and guess where they finished the following year? It's time.

I'll watch and go to a few games this year if this team shows any life. If it's going to be more of the same, forget it.

WHAT??? The Cubs and Twins have the best player development systems in the majors, heh heh, ha ha, howling with raucous laughter. When's the last time a Cub or Twin rookie even made a meaningful contribution, much less sniffed rookie of the year/All Star status? That statement has to embarrass even the most homer of all team shills.

After 3 horrible seasons the Twins and Souhan are selling "hop on the maybe .500 band wagon" as the new marketing campaign. How to destroy a winning team in a new stadium...on sale now in the Twins Pro Shop (10% off for season ticket holders)

I agree with what Souhan says about signing a premier hitter, it's less about the money than it is about the length of the contract. Good hitters and their agents, along with every GM in the majors, know the Twins are committed to developing their many good hitting prospects, most of whom are just one to three years away from the majors. No non-pitcher who wants to set himself up for consistent playing time over the next few years is going to sign with the Twins. That type of player will demand a long-term contract and the Twins would be foolish to do that right now. In a couple years, if (or when) a particular prospect doesn't pan out and they are one player away from serious contention, then they go after the big name with a long-term offer.
