Rick Warren takes on mental health care as personal mission after son's suicide

LAKE FOREST, Calif. — A year after his son's suicide, popular evangelical pastor Rick Warren is taking on a new mental health ministry inspired by his personal tragedy.

I commend these ministers for taking on an often ignored topic. I hope they will also address the issue that religious "standards" placed on people can lead them to believe they are worthless and can lead to suicide. I think especially of a friend of mine who was suicidal because he is gay and his church did not accept him -- and his church means everything to him. I'm thankful he is still here.
