You just have to wonder who has the money to drive there? Surely those people who visited have rich and very privileged lifestyles. Those like me had to work...

freedomall - for most people in the metro area it's a 4 hour drive and either a Friday or a Monday off work. Hotels in that area are fairly cheap and run specials all weekend. It's not like it's is a weeklong journey touring the countryside.

freedomall, It certainly is a heck of a lot cheaper than a trip to Disney World/Land, or even the Wisconsin Dells. Unless you have to work 7 days a week, you can come up most any time the ice is still safe!

It is a beautiful area, both summer and winter. If you are looking for a nice house to rent just Google "Lakeshore Getaway". It's 1 mile north of town, has 3 acres of forest, 300 feet of lake shore, and overlooks Madeline Island.
