Take Khalis Mack in the first at pick 8; and then let Norv work his magic with a QB like Garropolo or even McCaron. It's possible Carr drops to the top of the second; and if that's that case I wouldn't mind seeing Speilman work his draft magic and trade our second plus one of our third round picks to jump and grab Carr.

All 3 have some intriguing aspects about them whether its size, athleticism or stats. Im not sure any of them are franchise QB's. Its a tough call and i dont envy anyone who has to make that decision. That being said i think picking anyone of them at the 8th or higher spot is a gamble. I know the Vikings need a QB more than anything but i think the best option is Cassel if they can resign him. Pick up a linebacker, another need and try and grab Carr, McCarron, Mettenburger, or Murray in a later round and see if they pan out.

"I know the Vikings need a QB more than anything but i think the best option is Cassel if they can resign him." Cassel is good enough to take this team all the way if only given a chance. Every single QB coming out is a gamble at best. Cassel is a known quantity. But it doesn't end there. You need a decent back up QB and that is NOT Ponder; simple as that. I would still look north at the CFL for a QB that has played and done well..... Then, use every single pick you can find, to draft some quality defensive players that seem to be on the back burner in the media these days. Right now, the vikes have a lot more needs on the defensive side of the ball, assuming, that Cassel is brought back.

Imo Connor Shaw should be the qb they take in the 6th round. This guy protects the ball, can make all the throws, runs well and most importantly knows how to win. There is no downside to picking him as there wouldn't be pressure to succeed right away even though he is better than flounder and probably Cassel. They can take all defense in rounds 1-5 to improve that side which really needs lots of help.

All three will be long gone by the time the Vikings draft at #8. No sense trying to force a square peg into a round hole -- sign Cassel and draft defense!

Qb's with average or above average talent that have won super bowls, and there have been many,; Brad Johnson, Mark Rypen, Dlifer, Doug Williams, Jim McMahon..i think you get my point. Cassel fits right in their. These QB's played on teams with dominating defenses. That's all you need to know.

Anyone who feels the need to describe themselves as having a trait (small town kid), likely lacks the trait they claim to have.

Freedubay, I agree with you. Defense, defense, defense still wins championships, i.e. Seahawks, Ravens, Giants, Patriots, etc. If Mack is there, take him and look for the best QB in the later rounds. Round 3 would be a good round for a QB, and assess the later rounds for another possible QB with good smarts, great intangibles, above average arm and a proven winner. Norv Turner can coach them up and learn behind Cassel or another vetran for a year to mature and learn.

Ponder is a veteran who can and likely will be the quarterback till they are able to develop one that they find in the draft. Doubtful that Cassel will sign again. Knowing he is just a fill in. The team needs defense defense defense and would have won the division with good coaching. This team can have the most explosive offense in the NFL, and one of the best with what we have on the roster now. It may not be super bowl quality, but this is a very good football team.

If Ponder is the starting QB the first week of September I swear I'm going to impale myself on stake that's been driven into my front lawn!
